A national survey found that “flavored varieties made up 70 percent of milk consumed in schools. ” Obviously when students are given a choice, chocolate milk is the clear winner. It provides all of the same nutritional benefits as white milk and the chocolate milk served in schools today has a lower sugar content. Milk processors have worked with schools to reduce the amount of sugar by 38 percent – making nearly all of the chocolate milk served in schools less than 150 calories for an 8-ounce serving. In fact, flavored milk only hcoams 3p1armisoonre, calories than white milk and contributes only four percent of added sugar to children’s diets. By carbonated soda or fruit drinks contribute 45 percent of added sugar without the nutritional benefit .
