What is Success? BY TRACIE MIDDLETON, SNS WESTERN AREA DIRECTOR
To say that the last couple of years have been a difficult and trying time would be an understatement. It seems like everyday is a new struggle for cafeterias. From the early days of the pandemic when we all had to completely reinvent howwe ran our programs to currently as we all struggle with supply chain shortages and employee vacancies. Each of us has had to come up with creative ways to fulfill our individual needs. We go home tired, defeated and emotionally drained. Yet with all these battles we face each day we all need to take a step back and ask ourselves a couple of questions, “Did every child get fed?” “Did my staff and I do our best?”
If you answer these questions with a yes than you should recognize that the day was a SUCCESS! It is so easy to get down on ourselves or our situation but we all need to take a step back and realize that every accomplishment no matter how big or small is a success and when we add all those individual items up we are creating a successful program for our student, district and communities. So, when you are feeling overwhelmed or worried, work through your “to do list” one item at a time and remember to celebrate each completed item as a success!

Tracie Middleton, SNS is the Food Service Director at Bolivar-Richburg Central School, she has been in child nutrition for 24 years! Tracie loves what she does and is currently the Vice-President of Allegany-Cattaraugus SNA along with service on the NYSNA board of directors.
