Losing in-person interaction over the past year prompted Fuel Up to Play 60 to rethink how it connects with students and adult advisors. Through interviews, surveys and additional analysis, Fuel Up to Play 60 has simplified the user experience by offering an updated “Student Zone App,” refreshing its website and adding new tools and resources, including a new educator dashboard. All of these improvements make it easier for students and school stakeholders to access the features and program rewards. Now is the perfect time to revisit howFuel Up to Play 60 can benefit your school’s meal programs. For example, last spring Fuel Up to Play 60 supported school meal expansions by offering hot chocolate milk dispensers when applying for a Fuel Up to Play 60 grant. Through this grant, schools that completed a “Highlight Healthy Foods” play and chose a hot chocolate milk dispenser, also received signage, among other items. As the pandemic forced schools to shut across the nation last year, in-school programs like Fuel Up to Play 60 had to find newways to engage students. While most students are expected to return to traditional, in- person learning in the fall, aspects of virtual learning and reliance on technology and digital resources are likely to remain. Fuel Up to Play 60 is the nation’s largest student-led, in-school nutrition and fitness initiative developed in partnership by the National Dairy Council and the National Football League. Fuel Up to Play 60’s primary focus is to help schools meet their wellness goals and encourage students to consume nutrient-rich foods – such as dairy, fruits, vegetables, and whole grains – and complete at least 60 minutes of physical activity each day.
