FUEL UP TO PLAY 60 goes Virtual!

for school and at-home meal service, can receive funding through Fuel Up to Play 60. Up to $4,000 per year is available to qualified K-12 schools enrolled in the program. School Nutrition Directors can sign up at FUTP60.com and become program advisors to stay up to date on different opportunities for their schools and students. The next application period to apply for funding opens in April 2021.

As a result of social distancing guidelines forcing many school clubs and activities to meet virtually, American Dairy Association North East (ADANE) conducted focus groups with students and adult program advisors from the in-school health and wellness program, Fuel Up to Play 60, to determine how to support them in this “new normal.” Three key findings were that students wanted opportunities to keep engaging with other students, wanted quick healthy meal solutions, and they wanted to continue to be rewarded for their participation in activities. This led to ADANE’s creation of seven virtual events, including three in New York in conjunction with the New York Jets, New York Giants and Buffalo Bills, along with a virtual Fuel Up to Play 60 Challenge Center . This new website provides bi-weekly challenges that allow students to earn virtual rewards such as digital badges, as well as tangible rewards. Looking to provide School Nutrition Directors with additional healthy meal ideas for students, ADANE recently partnered with celebrity chef Jeff Henderson of Food Network fame to participate in a webinar where he taught viewers how to make his Deconstructed Pizza Salad and a yogurt muffin parfait, which are easy, fun and deliciousmenu options. Chef Jeff also provided packaging tips for School Nutrition Directors offering grab-n-go pick-up and food delivery services for students learning at home, allowing students to recreate those dishes on their own with the food kits they have received. Former Buffalo Bills running back and NFL Hall of Famer Thurman Thomas was a surprise guest during a recent webinar with School Nutrition Directors and taste-tested a yogurt muffin parfait created by celebrity chef Jeff Henderson.
